| Soil, various sediments, oils and organic matter trapped in the pockets and voids in the support gravel bed, create stagnant breeding grounds for harmful bacteria and parasites. E coli, cryptosporidium, giardia and shigella are just a few of the biological threats that have been found in these types of media filtration systems support gravel. The conventional lateral underdrain located above the support gravel, does not allow the trapped pathogens to contact any disinfectants during standard operation or to be dislodged during backwash mode. | The patented Bac-Erad Underdrain System, was designed to eliminate the stagnation of water in the support gravel section of standard media filtration. As shown in the 3D animation, water flows freely and completely through all phases of the filtration and Backwash mode process. The carefully engineered balance between the slotting of the conventional lateral underdrain manifold and the Bac-Erad Underdrain allow for total fluidization through the support gravel bed. This continuous movement prevents any dangerous stagnation that allows parasitical and bacterial growth within the system. |
